remove metadata.
Clean supported EXIF, location, camera and other embedded fields from a copy of an image. Download the resulting image file rather than a ZIP or a report.
free image metadata remover
Photos can carry more than the picture you see: camera settings, GPS information, timestamps, editing details and sometimes AI-related records. UsefulTho is a free image metadata remover and image metadata checker built around three direct actions: remove supported metadata, remove supported AI-related file fields, or inspect what's present.
Need to remove metadata from an image online? Choose the first mode and download the processed image. Want to check an image before sharing? Use the read-only inspector. The original file remains yours; the removal workflows create a separate output.
This page explains EXIF, photo location, AI generation parameters, Content Credentials and file formats without promising that metadata cleaning removes every possible identifier, invisible watermark or social-media AI label.
one place · three jobs
Clean supported EXIF, location, camera and other embedded fields from a copy of an image. Download the resulting image file rather than a ZIP or a report.
Target supported AI-related file fields such as generator details or embedded generation information when present. This does not control labels assigned by social platforms.
View recognized metadata without changing the original image. Find out which supported file details are available before deciding what to share.
A photo metadata remover changes a copy of a file; a photo metadata checker reads supported information without changing the image. The AI mode targets a narrower category of metadata rather than making a claim about AI detection.
EXIF · IPTC · XMP · C2PA
Image metadata is information stored in or associated with a file, separate from the visible scene. Not every format contains every kind of record, and not every field is removable.
File dimensions and file type are basic file properties. They are not necessarily optional tags that a metadata remover should erase.
Camera make/model, exposure settings, capture date, orientation and sometimes GPS coordinates.
photo EXIF data
Captions, creator credits, copyright and editorial or AI-related descriptive fields.
IPTC metadata viewer
Structured descriptions, editing application details, creator fields and extensible metadata.
XMP metadata checker
Signed Content Credentials that can describe origin and edits, including—but not limited to—AI use.
C2PA Content Credentials checker
Textual fields which some image applications use for prompts, parameters or workflows.
PNG generation parameters
Color-management information that can influence how image colors are displayed.

Select Remove Metadata in the tool above. It is designed for the straightforward task behind searches such as remove photo metadata, strip image metadata, free EXIF remover and remove hidden image metadata. The cleaner handles recognized removable structures, not a guarantee that every possible field or external record disappears.
01
Select or drop a file accepted by the tool. Keep your original as a backup.
02
Use the general removal action to clean metadata structures the processor supports.
03
Save the processed image in its supported original format. No ZIP or separate report is required.
There is no requirement to download a ZIP or a separate metadata report. Save the resulting image individually, in the original format where the processor supports it.
EXIF remover · EXIF stripper · clean EXIF metadata
EXIF is a familiar kind of photo metadata. A camera or phone may record the model, lens, exposure, capture time, orientation and GPS location. A JPG EXIF remover or photo EXIF stripper aims to remove supported embedded EXIF fields from the downloaded copy.
For searches such as remove EXIF from JPG, remove EXIF data online and remove camera information from photo, start with the general removal action. If the exact outcome matters, use the checker to inspect the processed file.
Some metadata is useful: orientation can tell a viewer how to rotate the photo, while an embedded color profile can affect colors. A good removal workflow checks that the image still looks correct after processing.
remove GPS location from photo online
A photo geotag can reveal coordinates when location services and export settings have recorded them. Supported GPS metadata removal can reduce that information before sharing.
To remove GPS from a photo or remove location from an image, clean the supported embedded location fields and then recheck the copy. The same privacy question appears as remove photo geotag or photo location metadata remover.
Important: removing latitude and longitude does not erase locations visible in the pixels. Street names, landmarks, reflections, captions and public account details can still reveal information about you or where a picture was taken.
An image privacy cleaner is a useful file-level precaution, not a guarantee of anonymity.
AI image metadata remover
The Remove AI Label Metadata mode targets recognized AI-related file fields—such as stored prompt or generator information when present. It is not a guarantee that an image will be classified differently by an AI detector or social platform.
This covers search needs like remove AI metadata from image, strip AI metadata and clean AI image metadata without confusing file fields with invisible watermarks.
Some generators place text prompts or other generation descriptions into accessible image fields.
A supported field may describe model names, samplers, guidance settings or software versions.
Seed values, inference steps and dimensions may be embedded by particular generation workflows.
Some PNG exports carry node graphs or workflow JSON in text chunks; detection and removal depend on the parser.
Certain PNGs can store generation parameters in textual chunks; not every Stable Diffusion export does.
Structured metadata may describe AI generation or AI-assisted edits, and it may coexist with other records.
01
Use a supported image file that may contain AI-related embedded information.
02
Select the AI-specific removal action rather than the general metadata mode.
03
Download the processed image. Removing fields is not the same as removing a platform label or invisible watermark.
PNG prompts · ComfyUI · Stable Diffusion
Sometimes. A PNG can store plain or compressed textual fields. Certain workflows use those fields for prompts, seeds, model settings or structured workflows. That is why people search for remove AI generation parameters from PNG, remove AI prompt metadata and check PNG AI generation metadata.
For Stable Diffusion image metadata, a file may contain parameter text, or it may contain no such record. Likewise, some ComfyUI exports embed a workflow in PNG chunks. Removing a ComfyUI workflow from PNG requires the processor to recognize the stored representation; not every file uses the same structure.
Other generators and editing apps can use XMP, IPTC, C2PA or no embedded generation fields at all. The presence or absence of a prompt does not settle whether the image was made or edited with AI.
AI tags · provenance · labels · watermarks
Searches for an AI label remover, C2PA remover or remove AI Info from photo can describe different technical problems. The four categories below are related, but not interchangeable.
File fields
Text or structured records that describe AI-related software, prompts, actions or generation settings.
Limit: Recognized, removable fields depend on format and implementation.
Signed provenance
Digitally signed statements about a file's origin or processing, which can also be used for camera-captured media.
Limit: Removing embedded data does not prove an image is non-AI or erase external provenance records.
Platform decision
Instagram and Facebook may apply labels based on available signals and disclosures, not only the uploaded metadata.
Limit: A local metadata cleaner cannot guarantee changing an existing or future platform label.
Content-level signals
Some invisible watermarks are embedded in image content rather than in removable EXIF or XMP fields.
Limit: Ordinary metadata removal is not a watermark-removal or AI-detection-bypass tool.
Embedded C2PA manifests can be distinct from EXIF. A general metadata cleanup does not establish that a signed manifest was detected, removed or cryptographically validated. Some provenance can be linked to records outside the image. Treat remove C2PA metadata from image as a capability to verify with real C2PA test files, not as an automatic promise.
Cleaning supported embedded AI data does not remove an existing platform label or guarantee that a later upload will be unlabeled. Meta's processes may use disclosures and signals beyond local file fields. A file metadata tool cannot change the platform's decision.

free image metadata viewer · online EXIF viewer
The Inspect Metadata mode reads supported file fields without creating a cleaned copy. Use it as an image metadata viewer, EXIF viewer or photo metadata checker for the data it recognizes.
01
Open Inspect Metadata with a file you want to examine.
02
Read supported EXIF, image, editing and AI-related information when available.
03
A missing or unrecognized field is not proof that an image is original, human-made or anonymous.
An AI metadata checker may show recognized AI-related fields, generator details, prompts, or supported provenance information. This is not the same as a probabilistic AI-image detector. No detected metadata is not proof of human authorship.
photo GPS checker · camera EXIF reader
These are examples of data an image file may contain. Not all images have it, and not every field is shown by every checker.
Some photos contain latitude, longitude, altitude or related location references. They may reveal where a picture was captured.
EXIF may identify a device make, model, lens and technical exposure settings. These are not the same as a person's identity.
Capture and editing dates may be stored, but clocks, time zones and editing software can change their meaning.
IPTC or XMP can include names, credits and rights notices. Removing these fields does not remove legal ownership or permissions.
Some files record the editor or export software; the presence of a name does not tell the complete editing history.
Some formats carry thumbnails or secondary data. Confirm those are handled by the actual cleaner before making all-data claims.
To view image GPS coordinates online or check photo date taken metadata, inspect the supported fields. Camera and timestamp values can be missing, inaccurate or modified; they are clues, not independent proof of where or when a photo was made.
JPEG · PNG · WebP · HEIC explained
A JPEG metadata remover, PNG metadata remover and WebP metadata remover may need different parsing methods. The cards explain what these formats can contain, not a promise that every format is accepted or that every metadata block is removable in UsefulTho.
JPEG metadata remover · JPG EXIF remover
JPEG files may carry EXIF, IPTC, XMP, GPS data, ICC profiles and some provenance structures.
Check: Removal without re-encoding can be possible for some blocks, but it must be proven by testing the actual writer.
PNG metadata remover · PNG AI metadata remover
PNG may store text chunks, XMP, ICC data, generation parameters or workflow information.
Check: A PNG is not automatically metadata-free. The processor must recognize each removable chunk type.
WebP metadata remover · remove metadata from WebP
WebP can contain EXIF, XMP and color-profile chunks alongside encoded image data.
Check: Support for reading and removing each chunk must be checked on actual WebP fixtures.
HEIC metadata remover · EXIF remover for iPhone
Some phone photos use HEIC or HEIF and include camera or location details.
Check: Do not assume this tool accepts or exports HEIC just because iPhone photos may use it. Check the file picker and output support.
remove EXIF data without losing quality?
Removing a metadata record is different from recompressing an image. Some workflows edit file structures directly; others decode and re-encode pixels. The latter can change quality or file size.
The extension and actual file structure matter. A .jpg name is not proof of a valid JPEG file.
The intended workflow downloads the original format where supported; it does not deliberately convert everything to PNG or ZIP.
Changing file metadata need not change visible pixels, but re-encoding may modify encoded pixel values or file size.
EXIF orientation is sometimes necessary for correct display. Test portrait images after cleaning.
Removing ICC profiles can change appearance in color-managed viewers. Inspect critical images visually.
Reinspect a processed file if a specific field matters; 'processed' is not proof that every proprietary record vanished.
If you need to remove EXIF without quality loss, verify the actual output against the source. We should not claim universal lossless metadata removal until the implementation is tested per format, including orientation and color profile behavior.
photo privacy checker · image metadata remover
The image-processing code runs in this browser, but production network behavior has not been independently verified. This page does not claim that image bytes never leave your device.
In the removal modes, work from a separate downloaded output and keep the original file. In Inspect Metadata, the requested action is read-only: it shows supported fields without changing the source image.
Need to remove metadata before sharing photos? Check the result and keep attribution or license information when you have a reason—or an obligation—to preserve it. Removing embedded records does not make images anonymous.
Need to remove metadata from photos in bulk? Select multiple supported images at once. Each gets its own card and individual download, not a ZIP bundle.
for people who share pictures
before sharing
Check for location and camera fields before publishing a personal photo. Metadata cleaning reduces some file-level disclosures, but visible landmarks can still reveal a place.
photographers
Inspect captions, equipment details and credit fields when delivering images. Keep original files if attribution or licensing data is important.
creators & designers
Understand whether supported image fields expose editing software, prompts or generation parameters before sharing a working file.
Whether your search is metadata remover for photographers, image metadata remover for creators or image metadata remover for social media, the same rule applies: inspect what is present, choose the correct action, and check the output.
embeddable image metadata tool
UsefulTho includes website embedding for supported tool flows. A metadata remover widget or image metadata checker widget should stay usable inside the host page, including file selection and downloads.
01
Set the iframe source to the Image Metadata Remover URL with ?embed=1.
02
Add that URL to an iframe in a website editor that permits custom HTML or embeds.
03
Check file selection, processing, result visibility and individual image downloads inside the published iframe.
WordPress, Webflow and other editors may permit custom HTML, but iframe policies differ. Test browser permissions, mobile width, file picker behavior, processing and download links on the published page. The embedded view is not a separate indexable SEO page.
best EXIF remover? metadata viewer? alternatives?
Searching for a free image metadata cleaner, a Metadata2Go alternative or an ExifTool alternative? Choose by the work you need done—not by a promise that one tool reads every metadata format.
Use an image metadata remover with a clear upload, clean and download flow. UsefulTho focuses on image files and supported embedded fields.
Choose a photo EXIF viewer or image metadata checker. Prefer readable field descriptions over unsupported claims of forensic completeness.
ExifTool is a broad command-line utility. UsefulTho does not claim to replace its extensive format coverage or automated workflows.
A dedicated C2PA checker with signature verification may be necessary. Reading a manifest field is not the same as validating its signature.
metadata terms explained
These terms appear in image metadata viewers, privacy tools and AI provenance discussions. They don't all describe the same kind of information.
questions people ask about image metadata
Answers about EXIF, GPS, AI metadata, Content Credentials, PNG generation data, browser privacy, formats, image quality, social labels and inspection. Each answer distinguishes what metadata can reveal from what a file-processing tool can prove.
Image metadata is information associated with a picture beyond the visible image, such as EXIF camera settings, timestamps, GPS coordinates, creator text, editing information or provenance records. Different formats store different kinds of data.
Choose an accepted image in Remove Metadata, process it and download the resulting image file. This removes supported embedded metadata, not every possible trace of where a picture came from.
The UsefulTho workflow is designed for direct use without creating an account. You can open the tool, choose a supported image and use the available action.
Yes, the general metadata-removal mode is intended to clean supported embedded fields, including recognized EXIF structures. Actual removal depends on the file and parser support.
Select a supported JPEG/JPG photo, use Remove Metadata and save the processed JPG. If EXIF removal is critical, inspect the output with a metadata viewer rather than assuming every field was handled.
PNG can carry text chunks, XMP and other fields. A PNG metadata remover must recognize those structures; processing a PNG does not automatically mean every specialized chunk has been removed.
WebP supports metadata chunks such as EXIF and XMP. If the current uploader accepts WebP, process the file and inspect the output to verify the specific fields you care about.
Some iPhone photos are JPEG and others are HEIC. Supported input and output formats depend on the live tool; do not assume HEIC is accepted until it appears in the supported upload formats and passes testing.
Use Remove Metadata to clean supported embedded location fields, then inspect the output if precise GPS removal matters. Visible landmarks, captions and platform data can still reveal where a photo was taken.
No. Removing embedded coordinates can reduce one privacy risk, but a photo may reveal identity or location through visible details, other files, account information and services where it is uploaded.
Supported EXIF cleaning can remove recognized camera make, model, lens or capture settings when present. It does not erase a camera or person visible in the picture.
You can inspect and clean supported file metadata before uploading a new image. Instagram may still process the upload and use its own rules, so metadata cleaning is not a promise about what the platform will display.
The AI-removal mode targets supported AI-related fields stored in image files. What it finds depends on the generator, export method, format and supported metadata structures; it does not control a platform AI Info label.
Some image files embed prompts in PNG text or structured metadata. Use Remove AI Metadata on an accepted image; inspect a processed copy if you need to verify that a recognized prompt field was removed.
Some PNGs contain generation parameters in textual chunks, including prompts, seeds, model and sampler settings. Detection and removal work only for field types recognized by the tool.
Certain Stable Diffusion exports contain prompts or other generation parameters, while others do not. The AI mode can address recognized fields; it is not a universal guarantee for every Stable Diffusion workflow.
Some ComfyUI PNG exports carry workflow data in embedded text chunks. Whether a particular workflow record is removed depends on its storage format and the actual cleaner's support.
Embedded C2PA records are a distinct signed provenance format. Do not assume they are removed merely because EXIF is removed. C2PA stripping must be supported and verified separately; externally discoverable provenance may also remain.
Content Credentials may be embedded as C2PA manifests. Some workflows can remove embedded manifests, but the current tool must be explicitly tested for those structures; removal does not establish human authorship or erase every other signal.
A C2PA inspector or verifier examines supported signed provenance records, including claims about creation and edits. A general image metadata checker may not fully validate cryptographic signatures unless that feature is implemented.
No. Signed provenance can support claims about a file's origin or handling, but it does not prove that what the pixels depict is true or that a scene actually occurred.
No. A missing AI-related field is not evidence of human authorship. Generated images may lack metadata, and AI provenance may exist outside removable fields.
No general guarantee. SynthID is designed to embed an invisible signal into media content, not just ordinary EXIF or XMP metadata. This page does not offer a pixel-watermark removal function.
Meta uses a combination of industry-related signals, platform processes and disclosures to label some AI-generated or AI-edited content. An image's visible label is not simply an EXIF field you can edit locally.
Not reliably. Cleaning file metadata does not control Meta's labeling decisions and cannot remove an existing post label. Follow the platform's current rules and disclosure requirements.
No. 'Made with AI' and 'AI Info' describe platform-facing labels; metadata is information stored in or associated with a file. The two can be related without being interchangeable.
Yes. The platform may apply labels using information or disclosures beyond the embedded metadata removed from a local file.
Choose Inspect Metadata, add an accepted file and read the supported fields shown in the inspection result. Inspection does not itself modify the original image.
Inspect Metadata serves the EXIF-viewer use case for recognized fields such as capture information and camera settings. It is not represented as a full forensic decoder for every proprietary tag.
Open the metadata checker and look for recognized generator, prompt, editing or provenance fields. No detected AI field does not prove the picture is human-made.
Some PNGs contain generation fields in text chunks. A checker can show those that its parser recognizes; an empty result is not a definitive AI-detection result.
Choose Inspect Metadata and look for supported GPS latitude, longitude or related EXIF fields. Many images contain no GPS data, and some apps remove it before export.
Some images include EXIF capture dates or software timestamps. A displayed timestamp may be absent, inaccurate, edited or missing time-zone context.
XMP and IPTC can contain captions, editing details and rights information. Availability in Inspect Metadata depends on whether the specific structures are recognized by the current parser.
This tool does not claim that image bytes never leave your device until its production processing and network paths have been independently verified.
It depends on the method. Editing metadata structures without recompressing pixels can preserve encoded image data, while re-encoding may affect quality, dimensions, orientation, color or file size. Do not assume universal lossless output.
UsefulTho's intended download flow preserves the original file format where processing supports it, rather than automatically providing a PNG or ZIP. Check each downloaded extension and file signature.
Potentially, if the processor edits the metadata structures without recompressing the image data. Whether UsefulTho does so must be verified for each supported format and removal path.
Removing copyright or creator text from metadata does not transfer ownership or erase legal rights, but it may remove useful attribution details. Keep an original and preserve required credits when sharing.
Fields fully absent from a processed copy are not available inside that copy, but the original file, backups, thumbnails, sidecars, cloud records or external provenance services may still hold information.
The tool is accessible in a browser and requires no account. A true no-upload claim depends on verified local processing; merely running in a browser does not establish that image bytes never reach a server.
You can select multiple supported images at once. Each image appears separately and is processed and downloaded as an individual file; the tool does not create a ZIP bundle.
The tool has an embed view at /image-metadata-remover?embed=1. Place that URL in an iframe on a page that permits embeds, then test file selection, processing and downloads there.
Potentially, through a Custom HTML or Embed block that permits the iframe. Compatibility is affected by each platform's settings, browser permissions and download restrictions; test it before publishing.
UsefulTho focuses on quick browser-based removal and inspection. ExifTool is a much broader command-line metadata toolkit; this page does not claim equivalent format support, scripting or forensic depth.
No. A metadata checker reads recognized file fields. An AI detector evaluates other signals or patterns and may be fallible; absence of AI metadata is not a detector result.
